This is a program on Captives that touches on background, structure, benefits, qualifications, IRC support and compliance, operation, estate planning applications, exit strategies, and case studies. After the Captive Insurance presentation has been completed, the attendee will walk away with a basic understanding of the benefits and opportunities associated with an 831(b) captive insurance company to include its use for alternative risk management, estate planning, and asset protection, to name just a few. The attendee will also learn the regulatory and compliance issues surrounding the formation and maintenance of the captive insurance company. Larry Anders is Chairman and majority owner of Summit Alliance Companies, an independent financial services firm based in Dallas, Texas. He began his financial services career in 1979 with Mass Mutual and Transamerica Occidental Life. In 1997, the branch was converted into the Master General Agency known as Anders, Smith and Associates, now Summit Alliance Companies, with Mr. Anders serving as its Chairman and CEO. He attended West Texas State University and studied Business Administration at Texas Tech University. Ken Kotch is a recognized tax and insurance expert, and has represented companies across multiple industries and jurisdictions focusing on tax planning best practices, as well as Captive Insurance Company structuring. Mr. Kotch has served as a research analyst with the Arizona House of Representatives' Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee, and is certified as a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) specialist via the University of Houston Law Center. He has a Juris Doctor degree with an emphasis in Tax and Environmental Law from the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Mr. Kotch lectures on various tax topics for Ryan clients and the Ryan Professional Development Program. Additionally, he has appeared as a speaker for various organizations.
