RAY ODOM

RESPONSIBLE INVESTING FOR THE MODERN FIDUCIARY

Sponsored by Tolleson Wealth Management

The investment philosophies of the best institutional investors eventually create a new standard for individual investors.  Likewise, the definition of an individual “prudent investor” ultimately defines “prudence” for a fiduciary investing for individual beneficiaries.  This presentation will clearly establish the overwhelming trend for institutional investors to consider socially responsible investing and its many variations.  More importantly this presentation will seek to answer an urgent question posed by this trend. How can the trustee of a private trust, duty bound to the trust instrument and the trust beneficiaries, ever take into account “socially responsible investing” in carrying out any its investment duties?  The answer may dramatically change the way you advise your prospects, donors and clients. Raymond C. Odom is a Senior Vice President and Director of Wealth Transfer Strategies at The Northern Trust Company. Ray serves as a national speaker, subject matter expert and professional advisor on wealth transfer planning. Ray works with Northern’s Wealth Management offices and Northern’s Foundation and Institutional groups around the country to provide advice to highly affluent wealth owners, estate planning attorneys and accountants and other professional wealth advisers. Ray began his career with Northern Trust 35 years ago and spent 10 years as Tax Counsel developing special expertise in the tax issues related to estate tax, exempt organizations and fiduciary income tax. Ray has also spent 3 years in private law practice assisting high net worth clients with business succession, trust litigation, corporate transactions, and probate practice. Ray received his BA from Valparaiso University and his Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.  He has been a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) for 25 years and formerly taught as an adjunct professor in the Benedictine University M.B.A. program. He is licensed to practice law in Illinois and the US Tax Court.
