Planning For Divorce – Pitfalls, Complexities, and War Stories

Sponsored by BNY Mellon

Panelists Todd Amacher (Certified Financial Planner TM), Kevin Fuller (Family Law Attorney), and Hunter Nibert (CPA) all have extensive backgrounds in guiding couples through the financial and tax complexities that can come with a divorce.  Learn from these experts on (1) how to properly prepare your clients for a divorce, (2) what financial and tax issues should be addressed during the divorce, and (3) how to guide your clients in the next chapter of their lives post divorce.  The panelists will address some of the financial and tax issues that are often overlooked during a divorce, including income taxes, valuations, financial projections, and retirement plans.   In addition, they will discuss the various options used to resolve a divorce including litigation, collaboration, and mediation.   Todd Amacher is a Partner at Robertson, Griege & Thoele – a fee-only wealth management firm headquartered in Dallas, Texas.  Prior to joining RGT, Mr. Amacher practiced law in the estate planning field for over ten years.  He is also a CPA and CFP®  who is regularly called upon to advise lawyers and their clients about the financial issues that arise during a complex divorce.  Mr. Amacher earned his BBA in Accounting at Texas A&M University.  He received his law degree and MBA degree from Baylor University.  Kevin Fuller is one of the top family law trial lawyers in Texas and has been named on the Best Lawyers in America list since 1995.  Mr. Fuller recently made the decision to leave the courtroom and launch Fuller Mediations where he now serves clients as a mediator and collaborative lawyer to help those in conflict resolve their disputes in ways that are less damaging and less expensive than the courthouse war.  Mr. Fuller earned his Bachelor in Science Economics from Texas A&M University and his law degree from Baylor University.  Hunter Nibert is a partner in the Individuals group of Travis Wolff, LLP, an advisory and accounting firm.  His practice areas include income and estate tax planning and compliance for high-earning individuals and wealthy families, as well as partnerships.  Mr. Nibert has served as the financial neutral in over 80 collaborative divorce cases.  He has been a trainer for Inter-Disciplinary Collaborative training courses sponsored by CLITEX. Mr. Nibert earned a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Berkeley and studied accounting at UTD.
